Volcanic Wines - From Sicily to Canary Islands

During this class I will be introducing you to some of my favorite wines that has one exciting thing in common - they all grew and were produced on volcanic soil! After drinking and studying wines for more than a decade it is safe for me to say that some of the world’s most interesting wines are born on volcanic soil yet wine drinkers are still rarely introduced to them. The reasons why these wines are not so widely available has to do with the fact that usually the production on these areas is smaller and more boutique, and also the grape varieties that are thriving in these areas are mostly indigenous, making them less-known to the wider wine-drinking community. After drinking these wines for years and exploring these volcanic wine-growing regions I am really excited to bring these wines to Knoxville for this very special class and share them with you. We will be tasting 5 different wines from different volcanic-regions all made on small farms practicing organic, biodynamic and regenarative farming practices.

What is included:

-tasting of 5 different wines

-cheese and charcuterie boards

-two hours of in-depth education on wines in a small-group setting

-an unlimited amount of fun!

Each class accommodates 16 people so space is limited.

This class series will take place at Zero Zero natural wine bar.

Tickets are non-refundable. In case you are not able to attend you are welcome to pass your ticket to a friend or someone that you know would enjoy tasting and learning about wines.

In the natural wine community it is generally accepted that wine should have very low to no amounts of added sulphur. These wines often exude a vibrancy and energy as well as having the ability to evolve in remarkable ways that you might have not experienced in other wines. Orange / Skin Contact / Amber Wines

It may look like a glass of orange juice, but orange (also known as skin-contact or amber) wine is about as far as possible from being a sugary drink. Orange wine is a style of winemaking that has been made for thousands of years, yet it has only recently made its resurgence and find a place on the shelves of so many natural wine bars and stores. Orange wines by their nature of production often overlap with the natural wine world, but it’s important to be aware that not every orange wine is a natural wine. In this class we will learn all the history and behind-the-scenes of making these wines and exploring different styles of orange wines through our tasting.
